Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). The couple moved to Oxfordshire as a child where she attended the Dragon School. Emma aged six when she decided that she wanted to be an actor. She studied for a number of years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a partially-time theater school in Oxford where she studied acting and singing. As a ten year old Emma took part in a variety of Stagecoach productions and school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone was the film of 2001 adaption of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Casting agents discovered Emma by way of her Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after 8 auditions. They were selected as the three lead characters Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. It broke all records for its opening and weekend ticket sales, and it was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Critics praised the film and the performance of three leading young actors. The well-known British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performances admirable. Emma's performance received nominations and won five awards later for the film.
